The department began functioning from october 1982.  At present sri. K.Govinda Bhat is working as the head of the department and with seven staff members in the department.   The staff are well qualified and the department is fully equipped for the requirements of the new syllabus.  It is a unique course and fetches befitting employment opportunities to the successful candidates in government departments, public sector undertakings, Private sector organizations and in self employment also.  The department has splendid records of good results every year and many studnets have bagged distinctions and ranks.  It has received a grant of Rs. 2.85 lakhs under the AICTE MODROB scheme, to equip the department for the modern requirements such as E-Commerce, Internet, Tally, Office Automation.
